Luke 9:18–27 addresses a pivotal turning point in Jesus' ministry as the disciples confess that he is the Christ of God, the Messiah. But, he reveals that he’s not the Messiah anyone was expecting. As the promised Messiah, He must suffer, be rejected, die, and rise again on the third day. Consequently, authentic discipleship requires believers to count the cost, deny themselves, and daily take up their cross to follow Him. Living for Christ means abandoning self-centered ambitions and making His glory the central driving force of our lives. Ultimately, being willing to lose our lives for His sake is the only true pathway to saving them for eternity.
