Luke 7:18-35

April 19, 2026

In Luke 7:18–35, John the Baptist wrestles with doubt when Jesus doesn’t meet his expectations, prompting the question, “Are you the one who is to come or should we look for another?” To answer that question, Jesus responds by pointing to His works and showing how they the fulfill prophecy, inviting John, and us, to trust what God has revealed rather than our circumstances. Jesus then proclaims the unmatched greatness of Christ’s kingdom and the privileges believers now experience through His saving work. He also warns that pride and misplaced expectations can blind us to who Jesus truly is, causing us to look for another when we should keep our eyes fixed on Christ. Instead, we must anchor our faith in Christ alone, trusting Him fully even when we don’t understand His ways.

  1. Listen to the prophets (21-27).
  2. Value the greatness of his kingdom (28-30).
  3. Evaluate our hearts (31-35).
