The apostle Paul shows in Galatians 4:1-7 that all humans are enslaved to sin under God’s law and thus, under the law’s condemnation. But God so loved us that he sent forth his Son to become a human, that he might redeem those under the law and give them adoption as children of God. God’s great gift of Jesus Christ brings us redemption from the law’s condemnation and adoption into God’s family as his beloved children and eternal heirs.

God carried out his plan of salvation through:

  1. Our enslaving bondage under the law before Christ (1-3)
  2. Our liberating redemption through the gift of Christ (4-5)
  3. Our transforming adoption as God’s children in Christ (5-7)
