In Luke 5:27–39, we see that Jesus is not someone we shape to fit our preferences, but the Savior who calls sinners to be transformed by his grace. Through the calling of Levi the tax collector, we are reminded that Jesus pursues even the most unlikely people and calls them to leave their sin behind in repentance. As Levi hosts a feast for other sinners, Jesus confronts the pride of the Pharisees, teaching that he came not for the self-righteous but for those who humbly recognize their need for mercy. Finally, Jesus makes clear that his kingdom cannot simply be added onto an old way of life—his presence changes everything. To truly follow Christ, we must leave our sin, lay aside our pride, and allow him to reshape our entire worldview.

  1. Leave our sin. (27-28)
  2. Leave our pride. (29-32)
  3. Leave our worldview. (33-39)
