Passage: 1 Corinthians 5:1-13

Join us as our pastor, Jonathan Brooks, teaches on 1 Corinthians 5:1-13.

1 Corinthians 5 tells us we must prioritize the holiness of the local church. If we are busy bragging about numbers or finances or our influence in the community, while sin rots us from the inside out, then the church has failed. Therefore, Paul has blunt and clear instructions for the Corinthians and for us because of their indifference to sin in their body. The Corinthians must deal with the presence of egregious unrepentant sin in their church.
So, this passage has a lot to tell us about the priority of holiness and how we are to deal with sin within our body. Paul is clear: The presence of sin in the local church cannot be overlooked or ignored. How are we to faithfully deal with unrepentant sin in our body? In these 13 verses, Paul will answer three key questions related to this:
  1. How should we respond to unrepentant sin in the church? (1-5)
  2. Why must we respond to unrepentant sin in the church? (6-7)
  3. How should we relate to those who are living in unrepentant sin? (9-13)
