Luke 1:1-25 begins the Christmas story, but it begins in a strange way. Luke tells the story of the birth of John the Baptist before recounting the birth of Jesus Christ. While it may seem odd, Luke will show us why John’s birth was a necessary precursor to the birth of the Savior. Luke will show us how God prepared the way for the Savior through John’s birth. There are three ways God was preparing the way for Jesus:
  1. By his sovereign providence.
  2. By keeping his promises.
  3. By calling his people to repentance.
